Tiger Warrington - Liverpool's Boxer

Terrance (Tiger) Warrington, born in Liverpool NS, 12th April 1914, boxer, died 01 February 1978.

June5th 1933 – Halifax Arena – Halifax Nova Scotia – Light Heavyweight Terrance (Tiger) Warrington, of Liverpool Nova Scotia, meets former maritime and Canadian Light Heavyweight champion Roy Mitchell in what was to become one of the most controversial fights in Nova Scotia history.

In the first round Mitchell decks Warrington for a two count and from there on the boxers sparred. Action returned in the 9th round when Warrington rocked Mitchell with three rights to the jaw. By the 10th round they were again sparring. Two judges determined that Warrington had won the fight but due to the lack of activity the fight was declared a 'no contest’.

Not long after the bout, Mitchell retired to become an evangelist. He suddenly died in 1951 at the age of 48. Warrington continued his career and went on to greater heights.

Now that Warrington and Mitchell are both dead the true story behind their controversial fight may never be known.

Henry Hensey

Henry Hensey (1900-1970)
will long be remembered by the people of Liverpool. Henry Hensey was loved by all, touched many people's hearts and in return for his kindness the people named a street after him.

Henry was always seen swinging his ever present basket, to and fro, leaving most of the people wondering what it was that was hidden under the cover.

Henry loved to tell the story about the first time that he was asked to be a  pall bearer. While at the graveside, Henry was standing perilously close to the edge and before he could do anything about it he slowly slid silently beneath the casket. There was neither a pause nor a snicker in the service as someone pulled Henry out. He was heard to say, "Never in my whole life did I have such a queer feeling."

Several years before his death, Henry thought that he had reached Seventh Heaven, he was invited to attend the opening ceremonies of the Nova Scotia Legislature. That afternoon Henry stood proudly in line at Rideau Hall, waiting to be presented to the Governor General of Canada. When Henry heard the Governor's aid call, "Mr. Henry Hensey," he said, "My feet took wings and I floated by. Perhaps nothing like that will happen again, but at least I can say 'I've been'."
